Types of Therapy We Offer

At Purposeful Path Counseling, we have a dedicated team offering therapy in many forms. What sets our practice apart is our ability to add or change therapeutic focus and offer multiple types of therapy during your healing journey if it feels helpful. You may start with an individual counselor and add parent coaching, or your child might start counseling and your therapist may decide with you that family therapy may be helpful. Wherever your journey leads, we are here to walk the path with you!

Individual Therapy

While one-on-one between a client and a psychotherapist is the most traditional form of therapy, that does not mean that one size fits all. You and your therapist will work together to decide what suits you best. Multiple forms of therapy may be best to help you achieve your goals, and we see you as an expert on your life—we just offer the skills and training needed to help you heal and grow.

Individual therapy is not just talking to a friend—it is working with an impartial professional who is able to see you fully and help you see yourself in a different way. Our training allows us to help you make connections between the past, present, and the interplay of feelings, thoughts, and actions that are impacting your life.

Rather than getting advice, you’ll learn skills to make the choices that feel best to you!
Both teens and adults can benefit from individual therapy.

All of our therapists offer individual counseling.

Child Therapy

Whatever your child is struggling with, it can be so hard as a parent to know what to do. Our therapists work closely with parents and caregivers to offer tools and skills to help your child learn to respond to challenges with resilience and an “I can do it!” mindset. All children are worthy of respect, and they deserve a therapist who will hear them, see them, and help them grow. Because children learn new skills through play, their therapist will have specialized training in offering therapy through play and other experiential activities.

Your child’s therapy may involve periodic sessions in which you are involved directly in therapy, and your child’s therapist will keep you updated on progress and challenges along the way. But we see your child as the client, empowering them to work with their therapist in ways that feel right and safe to them. Your child’s therapist will encourage the whole family to practice these skills to ensure that their learning extends to home and school.

For children under 12, Becca, our dedicated child therapist, uses play therapy techniques, sandplay, expressive arts therapy, and other integrative techniques to help children express and understand themselves. For older children and teens, a mix of more traditional forms of therapy integrated into fun and playful activities will be used. Services are individualized for what works best for your child and family. No matter what, you can be sure that your child’s therapist will truly know them and support you in meeting their needs.

Becca offer counseling for children 1-12, and Libbey offers counseling to children 10-13.

Couples Counseling

Do you feel like you and your partner are struggling to communicate and meet each other’s needs? Relationships are like a dance that the partners are learning together as they go, and there are tools and skills that can make the dance more beautiful.

We welcome partnerships from all identities for couples counseling, including heterosexual couples, couples from the LGBTQ+ community, and consensually non-monogamous or polyamorous partners.

If you are in any form of a committed relationship, couples counseling can teach you new ways of viewing and loving one another more fully!

Marielle and Christin offer couples counseling.

Parent & Family Therapy

Parent and family therapy can take many different forms.

Your child might be in therapy and your therapist might recommend a few parent coaching sessions, which can be very effective in teaching a balanced approach to discipline and fostering a deeper connection between you and your child.

Or you may want to seek longer-term therapy for yourself to process how your own life experiences are impacting your parenting.

We can also offer counseling for the whole family, in which you can recognize and learn from unhelpful family patterns and find new ways of connecting, living, and loving.

You may work with multiple therapists to accomplish these goals. We welcome the ability to offer you services as a cohesive clinical team!

Fostering Community for New Mothers

Purposeful Path Counseling is the proud Blue Ash location for Cincy Postpartum, an incredible opportunity for moms of new tiny humans to find community and connect with each other in this season of life and beyond.

Founded by Amanda Laskowski, postpartum doula and lactation educator, Cincy Postpartum runs weekly groups in multiple locations around Cincinnati for moms to bring baby with them and find support, resources, and connection. We are proud to partner with Cincy Postpartum because we believe in the power of self-compassion and building a village with others in parenthood, both of which postpartum circles provide with warmth and emotional safety. Molly (birth and postpartum doula) or Amanda run the circles, and one of our therapists often makes an appearance as a “guest listener” and supporter during mental health week!

Learn more about Cincy Postpartum on their website, or, if you are expecting a baby soon, get notifications about upcoming circles here!
